BEL-Lume is a full-scale design-build installation developed within the Form & Force lecture at KU Leuven for the BELvue Museum in Brussels. Set inside the museum’s historic atrium, the project explores the relationship between light, material behavior, and computational form-finding.
The installation uses lightweight, two-sided metallized membranes to create reflective funnel-like forms suspended through the vertical volume of the space. By activating the full height of the atrium, the project creates a dialogue between the museum’s historic walls and its contemporary glass façade, transforming the courtyard into an immersive spatial experience.
My role focused on concept development, form-finding, parametric modeling, and documentation. I proposed using the full vertical volume of the atrium to strengthen the installation’s spatial presence and visitor experience. During the design phase, I developed the parametric logic in Grasshopper and Rhino, translating early sketches into a controlled geometric system shaped by material behavior, boundary conditions, and iterative testing.
The project moved from digital simulation to physical construction through continuous refinement. I participated in the full-scale assembly while leading the visual documentation of the process, capturing how the structure evolved through making, testing, and collective decision-making.
BEL-Lume reflects architecture as both a spatial and communicative practice: a project where computation, fabrication, light, and collaboration come together inside a historical setting.
